The history of the Arizona Cardinals dates back to 1898 when the Cardinals became a charter member of the National Football League. Originally just a local group who gathered to play on the south side of Chicago, in 1901 their first name came about from the faded jerseys they acquired from the University of Chicago. The name was the Racine Cardinals.

Through growth and development, this Chicago-based team was transferred from Chicago to St. Louis in 1960 and remained there for 28 years. In 1988, the Cardinals relocated to Arizona and the Sun Devil Stadium became their home location. In 1994, the team\'s name was changed to the Arizona cardinals. In 2006, the Cardinals opened their new stadium, the University of Phoenix Stadium.
